In this video, the second in Mark’s improvisational series, the viewer is treated to an intimate, front row seat as Mark increases the limitations that he is willing to place upon himself in order to increase his depth both as a human being and as an artist.
The same approach occurs here with the addition of band mates Shaun Jurek and Russell Lucas operating the bowl full of tonal centers pieces and the stopwatch respectively.
The listener is treated to the same magic in this project as in Seven Moons. When one plays the CD without knowledge of how these pieces came to be they sound as though they were well planned and carefully practiced compositions. On the contrary - each piece occurred in the studio in the moment they are being heard.
Both the DVD and the CD includes an in-depth and revealing essay on the state of jazz and classical music, along with a beautiful - and not at all intimidating - mention of Mark’s own spirituality.
